How to Manage Students & Classes
🏫 Part 1: Managing Your Classes
Before you can assign homework or add students, you need to create your classes.
How to Create a New Class:
- From your main Teacher Dashboard, click the My Classes tab at the top.
- In the "My Classes" panel, click the orange + Add Class button.
- A popup will appear. Type in your Class Name (e.g., "Year 10 Set 1").
- Homework Tracking: Leave the checkbox ticked if you want this class to have a gradebook that tracks their homework progress. (You can uncheck this if it's just a casual revision group).
- Click Add Class. It will instantly appear in your class list!
Viewing a Class Gradebook:
- To view a specific class's homework grid and overall performance, simply click the gear icon next to their name in the class list.
🧑🎓 Part 2: Registering New Students
Once your classes exist, you can generate accounts for your students so they can log in.
How to Create a Student Account:
- On the My Classes tab, look at the "Student Directory" panel on the right.
-
Click the orange + Register Student button.
Fill in the details:
- Username: Give them a unique login name (e.g., jsmith or john.smith).
- Temp Password: Set a simple temporary password (e.g., maths123). The system will securely force the student to change this to a private password the very first time they log in.
- Assign to Class: Pick their class from the dropdown menu.
- Click Create Account.
✏️ Part 3: Editing Students & Resetting Passwords
Students occasionally forget their passwords or need to be moved to a different class/set.
How to Edit a Student or Reset their Password:
-
In your Student Directory, find the student you want to edit and click the blue Arrow arrow (Profile) button next to their name.
This opens the Student Profile View. Here you can:
- Fix Typos: Correct their username or display name.
- Move Classes: Use the dropdown to instantly reassign them to a new class.
- Reset Password: If a student is locked out or forgot their password, simply type a new temporary password into the "Reset Password" box.
- Note: If you just want to change their class or fix their name without changing their password, simply leave the password box blank!
- Click the blue Save Profile Changes button.
How to Delete a Student:
- At the bottom of the Student Profile page is the red Danger Zone. Clicking the Delete Student Account button will instantly and permanently wipe that student and all of their homework submissions from the database. (Be careful, this cannot be undone!)
💡 Pro Tip for Teachers: If a student accidentally triggers the brute-force security lockout by guessing their password too many times, a red "Force Unlock Account" button will automatically appear at the top of their profile page, allowing you to instantly let them back in!
